Ian im in full agreement with you mate .oh and by the way "I wish you all the best on your wedding mate" but to get back to the terrible missmanagement of the regeneration of east manchester the only people who have benefitted are the council heads who have had a feast of a time on the backs of the people who matter and have been conned into thinking that it was for their own good? Its the big developers who have enjoyed the benefits of the regeneration of the area building their ideas of eutopia.WHAT A JOKE AND THE PEOPLE OF EAST MANCHESTER ARE LEFT WITH THE PROBLEMS. like the regeneration of hulme badly designed and it wasnt thought out with the people in mind.Just the developers who once again made a fortune. And now we have the greedy once more trying to convince the people of east manchester they need a casino, and all the jobs and benefits it will bring.Take it from me the only benefits it will bring to east manchester are very low paid jobs ,and lots of social problems. But the bosses of this council dont care what the people of manchester think they only care what is in it for themselves.

I Don't Understand What the whole problem is concerning residents of east Manchester. Ive lived in Clayton/Beswick all my life and at the minute, I only see vast improvements in the area i am living... big and small!!! Yes, there will be problems along the way... yes everything wont be to the liking of every resident living in this area. But if everyone was to agree on anything before it got done, most ideas wouldn't even get past the planning stages. So Far (to name a few) I have seen the creation of Sports-City (At last Manchester is not just thought of as a high-crime area). The B of The Bang (Not to everyones taste, I know), a new, modern, eye-catching landmark... sure to bring many tourists to its location. And the fact that many people use the excuse of it being a huge bag catcher need to look at the bigger picture!!! These people need to argue the case for looking after the environment, not removing possible landmarks for the sake of it showing off the litter that was already there!!!
A Huge Asda Wallmart serving thousands of people in the community, aswell as producing hundreds of new jobs. The area is also attracting major property developers... which if the City is to grow and maintain its 'major city' status, is vital.
The Casino... yes... again not too popular. But people just see it as a casino. Does nobody know the amount of casino's located in and around the city of Manchester??? Yes, this is going to be on a grander scale, but its going to be to a larger target audience. Like sports-city, this is going to attract thousands of people from around the country, from around the world. It plans to hold other entertainment facilities, other than just gambling.
The City is changing... The City is growing... and Fast!!! This is not only going to cause great improvements in the functioning of the area, but we are also likely to see a rise of problems that we are all too use to. If we all stop complaining about the very things which are trying to help us, the quicker we will reap the rewards. :-)

Well put bob? we have to thank this great council of ours for 24/7 drinking which a lot of people didnt want,But in the councils wisdom they went ahead and told us all it was a modern concept to have a 24 hour city?(drinking) tell that to the hospital staff and the police as well as the street cleaning staff who has to clean the mess up.MCC are very quick at implimenting these "new" ideas the same went for the concerns of the noise/rubbish around the stadium after macthes and concerts.People also voiced their opinion about the casino. crime etc ,as i know that other places like the goldcoast in austrailia/south africa has a massive crime rates around these areas.Anywhere you have these massive casinos you have a high crime rate.do we need even more problems in east manchester??Good result to refuse a casino and this council should be repremanded for their bad descisions on the wasting of council payers money. the people of east manchester deserve better jobs than cleaners and croupiers.
