Subject - £92 MILLION HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME LAUNCHES IN SOUTH MANCHESTER
Posted : (Thursday 5th June 2008 ) By - Jane (Registered User)City South Manchester Housing Trust has taken over thousands of Manchester City Council homes – and is to kick start its £92 million five year investment programme from ‘day one’.
The new, not-for-profit housing association is now responsible for the ownership and management of around 4,500 Council homes in Fallowfield, Hulme, Moss Side and Whalley Range. Transfer to City South Manchester Housing Trust means tenants’ homes will get the repairs and improvements they need to bring them up to modern standards.
In the first two years:
More than 1,800 homes will benefit from new kitchens and bathrooms
Almost 2,300 homes will receive external improvements
Almost 2,000 homes will benefit from new windows
Around £7 million will be available for much needed neighbourhood and environmental improvements also. In all, every home will enjoy at least one major improvement in the first two years as part of a £270 million, 30-year investment programme.
The launch of City South Manchester Housing Trust follows a ‘yes vote’ by Council tenants last July to transfer their housing to the new organisation, and unlock the investment in their homes.
Dave Power, Chief Executive of City South Manchester Housing Trust, said: “We are delighted to mark the official transfer of homes and can’t wait to get started with the job.
“There is no doubt this transfer will have a big effect on the lives of tenants and the future looks very exciting. Tenants will see us on estates from day one – we are determined to repay their faith in us and make a big impact in this part of the city.”
