As of 1st June 2008 any Manchester resident aged sixty or over will be entitled to free swimming at any Manchester pool, including the Aquatics Centre. The scheme is a partnership between Manchester City Council, Manchester Primary Care Trust and Serco. It will initially run for 1 year and the aim is to increase the number of people over 60 in the city that swim regularly as part of the Healthy Ageing Strategy.
Manchester is the first city in England to offer such a comprehensive package and older people will be able to access information about the passes from local pools by the middle of May.
