Subject - You said, we agree!

Posted : (Wednesday 6th December 2006 ) By - Jane (Registered User)Earlier this year, the PCT, police, council, community network and other agencies that make up the Manchester Partnership talked to people about how they could play their part in making Manchester a better place.

Residents told us that if different groups of people worked together on a local issue, there could be big improvements which would go a long way to delivering the new Manchester Community Strategy’s vision. This work would develop as an agreement between all those involved.

Based on what people said, seven agreements are being developed across the city and it is hoped that these will become ‘Mancunian Agreements’. One is between a school and local shopkeepers to stop litter that upsets residents, cut out sales to children during school-hours and reduce unhealthy snacking. Another is between a group of local off-licence owners working together to eliminate sales of alcohol to children and to be responsible in their sales to young people and to reduce anti-social behaviour and ill-health.

Now’s the time to think about what agreements could improve your area. Next spring there will be an opportunity to develop your ideas through the annual Challenge Manchester 100 Days and you may find that these develop into Mancunian Agreements. The more agreements there are – the more life will improve for everyone. More information can be found on www.manchesterpartnership.org.uk
